The Insular Life Building at the corner of Ayala Avenue and Paseo de Roxas in Makati was quite popular in the seventies and the eighties because of the theater which was located at the top floor (I'm not sure if this is still around). Repertory Philippines used to hold many plays in that theater, and being one of the first buildings along Ayala Avenue, this building has become an icon of sorts. The building was renovated some seven or eight years ago, and continues to re-invent itself; a few years back, the Philippine Stock Exchange added a giant wide-screen LCD at the building facade that to this date, runs a ticker on the share prices of Philippine stocks. A lot of people don't know that the building has a quiet chapel at the mezzanine level. I discovered this many years back as I was paying my annual premiums, and over the years, I have at times passed by to say a prayer or two specially during off or in-between hours. I don't think that the chapel has regular mass slots though, but probably mass can be arranged for special events. Good place to de-stress for some prayer and meditation right in the center of the concrete jungle that is Makati!
