Good Shepherd

Vicky recently asked some friends to purchase some Snowballs from the Mountain Maid Training Center of the Good Shepherd Convent in Baguio City (along Gibraltar Road, near Mines View Park).  Covered in powdered sugar, these cookie balls are easy to bite and have been a favorite of the kids since we took them on the annual Baguio trek from 2002-2008 (well, as they went on to high school, they have wanted to spend vacations in other locales, so we've stopped the mountain tradition).  The Mountain Maid Center has been supporting teen-age girls through school and the snowballs are just one of the products that they have.  I remember that a trip to Baguio would not be complete without visiting the Convent and taking home loads of their other goodies--among them lengua de gato (literally the tongue of the cat, a thin butter cookie), strawberry jam, chocolate crinkles, ube (purple yam) jam and peanut brittle.  Absolutely inexpensive, I think each pack just costs something like P150--imagine that!
